All Day I Dream About Sushi

My family love food. We love Italian food and Indian food and Mexican food. But we were never lovers of Japanese food. Only my mother cared for the taste of it which meant we occasionally visited a Japanese restaurant on her birthday. We took off our shoes and sat on the floor in our own little room. For some reason I always had tempura.

It wasn't until about three years ago that I was baptized into the world of sushi. Now, I'm a vegetarian so the idea of sushi had never been that appealing. Raw fish and more raw fish. Any restaurants I had visited only had one or two types of veggie sushi, usually Kappa Maki (cucumber) of which I am not that fond. It wasn't until I visited Wada that the joys of veggie sushi opened up to me. They had an entire vegetarian menu filled with avocado rolls, vegetable tempura rolls, and colour maki. A veritable feast.

Since then I've discovered a sushi bar that does it even better. At least once a week I venture to Sushi Sushi, usually with my sushi buddy Alia. I always get combination plate #4 which includes avocado rolls, veggie tempura rolls and inari sushi which is sweet bean curd wrapped around soft luscious rice. It’s a perfect soft tasty pillow of nutritious goodness. Sushi Sushi always have the tastiest warm sweet rice. They have the freshest, moistest nori seaweed. It melts away to sea dreams the moment it touches your eager tongue. Add the other ingredients and you have one of best culinary inventions ever.

Knowing how I love sushi and love Buffy the Vampire Slayer, imagine my delight when Buffy showed up in an episode wearing yummy sushi pajamas. Doesn't get any better than that. --Lara
