Part Two - Grueling interrogation
1. When and how did your group begin?
Summer of '98. Nick was in grade 11 and Lari had just graduated from high school. Nick had been writing songs with titles like 'The Benefits of Yoga' and 'Things that Make You Go Hmmm.' Voices matched nicely. Our first show was in a mall.

2. Tell us about your recordings/releases to date in 100 words (more or less).
We made a 'demo' tape with our original band a few summers ago. We recorded it on a Mac. Very self-sufficient. Only a handful of people have it thought. We've just finished mixing our first proper record at the Hive. We've been working on it since November. It's very much a group effort; about 12 people played on it. Bells, whistles. Colin Stewart is a saint. It's going to be called 'When it's Dark, and it's Summer.' A lot of it sounds like that.

3. How do you approach live audiences?
a. With indifference.
b. With defiance.
c. With a proverbial pointed stick.
Well, we had to pick one so we'll go with a., but we're not indifferent to the audience. 'Cause if we were, we wouldn't bother playing shows. However, we don't play that often, so we're not that seasoned. We like playing music for people but at the same time perfomer/audience interaction makes us a little uncomfortable. We hope to grow out of that soon. Onetwothreerockpose!

4. Do you have any side projects and, if so, what are they?
We put Boring together to explore how the more eccentric music we like influences us. We like synthesizers and drum machines and balloons. We played one show at the Sugar Refinery and it went over unexpectedly well, so we might revive it sometime soon. Nick also has a project with his cousin, Julia, from Calgary, called Too Bad Catholics. When Nick visits, they make songs and record them on an old tape player. Julia plays the bass clarinet and Nick plays guitar or piano. The songs are mostly about Calgary. Odd city.

5. What is more important to you:
a. Cultivating a coherent aesthetic?
b. Displaying a wide range of influences?
c. Reconciling the two, apparently contradictory impulses?
We basically play pop music, so this is kind of an awkward question to answer. Everything about pop music is derivative of something, so we just take the attitude that it doesn't really matter if it's been done before, just as long as it's relevant and true to us. With that approach, our personalities seep into the music and leave us with an unintentionally cohesive aesthetic. Yes.

6. You lied about your age in Part One of this examination, didn’t you? Didn’t you?
No.
